The Wisconsin School of Business will mirror the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus policy.

Passwords chosen must:

  • Be a minimum of eight (8) characters in length.
  • Be memorized; if a password is written down, it must be secure.
  • Contain at least one (1) character from three (3) of the following categories:
    • Uppercase letter (A-Z)
    • Lowercase letter (a-z)
    • Digit (0-9)
    • Special character (~`!@#$%^&*()+=_-{}[]\|:;”’?/<>,.)

Passwords chosen must not:

  • Contain a common proper name; login ID; email address; initials; or first, middle, or last name

It is strongly recommended that:

  • Each password chosen is new and different.
  • You change them frequently.
  • They be private—please do not share your password with anyone, including members of the IT staff.

Your campus NetID will meet the password criteria. If you have a campus NetID, use that password; if you do not, feel free to use this service to create a suitable password. Change the password length to eight characters, and then click “Generate Passwords.” The page will show four passwords from which to choose. These will be very foreign and may require you to record your choice to remember it. However, the password will meet the policy requirements. Alternatively, you can create your own following the guidelines shown above.

You may, if you wish, record the password and put it in a safe place—your billfold, wallet, bag, etc. Please record only the password—no other account information.

Passwords will not expire.

How can I change my password? Two ways:

  1. PC/Windows workstation: CTRL+ALT+DELETE > Change Password > follow the fields to complete the task
  2. Web-based option (Windows, Apple): Open a browser, point to, login to email. From the upper-right corner, choose the Options text and choose Change Password. Follow the fields to complete the task.
