Biography

Jirs Meuris is an Assistant Professor in the Management and Human Resources Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and serves as a faculty affiliate at the Institute for Research on Poverty and the Center for Financial Security. His work sits at the intersection of behavioral science, human resource management, and public policy. Jirs looks at how work and employment shape people’s personal finances and the resulting consequences for individuals, organizations, and society.

He has conducted this research in collaboration with a variety of organizations including universities and companies in the healthcare, finance, and transportation industries. Jirs’ work has been published in the Academy of Management Annals, Industrial and Labor Relations Review, Organization Science, and Research in Organizational Behavior. His work has been featured in numerous media outlets including The Atlantic, the Washington Post, the Wall street Journal, and Bloomberg. He has also appeared on various radio and television programs such as NPR's Marketplace, Wisconsin Public Radio, and WTV Live at Four.

Jirs received his PhD in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management from the University of Pittsburgh. He also holds a MPS in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and a BA in Criminology from the University of Maryland, College Park.
