Ambika Kumar graduated from Miami University, Oxford, OH with a Bachelor of Arts after triple majoring in psychology, neuroscience, and premedical studies and minoring in management and leadership from the Farmer School of Business.
While at Miami, she held two different university jobs and was highly involved in several organizations. As a resident assistant for the Office of Residence Life and a fellow for the Office of Community Engagement & Service, Ambika gained valuable skills regarding project management, event marketing, relationship development, conflict resolution, community development, intercultural and LGBTQ+ awareness, and crisis responsiveness. As part of Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed service fraternity, Ambika developed into a strong, authentic leader. Over 3 years, she held 6 executive board positions, including Vice President and President, and as a senior, she was invited to join the advisory board committee, which consists of chapter advisors and past presidents. During her time in Alpha Phi Omega, she facilitated board meetings of 30+ members, ran chapter meetings of 300+ members, created 300+ service events, and coordinated apparel and restaurant fundraisers to raise more than $7,000. As a scholar leader for Wilks Leadership Institute, she helped organize a 5-day service trip to Nashville, TN that focused on the consequences of gentrification within the city. As part of this team, she managed ~$13,300 of funding and ensured to stay under budget so that the 30 students attending could go free of charge.
After graduation, she joined the Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital volunteer services team, Downers Grove, IL as an intern. Here she collaborated with cross-functional teams to manage and update physician credentials through MSOW Credentialing, updated 800+ volunteer information and data profiles through Volgistics, executed 2019’s volunteer re-training process by creating and grading re-training exams for 450+ active volunteers, designed promotional materials to increase awareness of the volunteer services’ American Heart Association Heart Walk Team and to provide individual team members with fundraising tips, as well as created job descriptions for the new positions available in the department.
Ambika is passionate about community service and can often be found volunteering with local food pantries, animal shelters, and Special Olympics programs. She has completed over 350+ hours of community service with Alpha Phi Omega, and over 500+ hours with her local hometown community. Ambika is excited to pursue her MBA at the Wisconsin School of Business with a concentration in Strategic Human Resource Management and is looking forward to taking the next step in her career.
