MBA 2021 | Operations and Technology Management


Gaurav Rao graduated in 2013 from R.V College of Engineering, Bangalore, India, with a Bachelor’s in Electronics and Communication Engineering. After graduation he started his career as a software engineer in Mahindra Comviva building apps for telcos such as Vodafone, MTN and Carphone warehouse. Although the youngest on the team, he led a project in Doha, Qatar for Vodafone campaign management, liaising with cross-functional teams from different geographies for customer integration. His leadersahip skills and his interest to explore different dimensions of the business made him move towards customer centric roles. He joined Byjus, an education technology firm, as a Business development executive where he learned a lot about sales and conversions. Using this knowledge combined with his strong forte in technology, he then joined the pre-sales division at Akamai Technologies as a consultant for North American customers, providing businesses with optimized technical solutions and strategies for business growth. During his tenure at Akamai he was responsible for multiple wins for web performance and security products, generating over $800K in monthly recurring revenue.

While not working, Gaurav enjoys playing sports, travelling and organising events. In addition to organising national level college and department fests during his Bachelor’s, he has also conducted and participated in many corporate soccer, cricket and badminton tournaments.

He is excited to start his MBA journey at the Wisconsin School of Business where he hopes to fill the gaps between being a corporate employee and a business leader. He aspires to be an entrepreneur one day and solve issues faced by people across the globe with the help of technology.
