Wisconsin School of Business accounting students may enhance their ethical foundation thanks to the resources provided by alumnus Howard Carver and initial funding by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). With this generous support, we provide an integrated curriculum that addresses three key goals cited in the PwC publication Educating for the Public Trust: The PricewaterhouseCoopers Position on Accounting Education:

  • To help students understand what it means to be a member of the profession
  • To emphasize higher-level interpersonal and communication skills and integrate them throughout the curriculum
  • To foster students’ ability to solve problems in complex business environments where the best answer is difficult to quantify

The Ethics and Professionalism Program addresses these objectives with opportunities for students to:

  • Participate in new student orientation that includes case discussions outside of the classroom
  • Meet with accounting professionals to discuss ethical issues
  • Strengthen interpersonal skills through role playing and group activities
  • Examine ethical behavior in situations where reward structures do not encourage ethical behavior through laboratory experiments
  • Discuss in depth the topics of corporate governance, risk, and ethical behavior in courses such as financial reporting and auditing
  • Develop and enforce a Statement of Values and Code of Ethics for the Wisconsin School of Business Accounting program
