After spending seven years in the U.S. Army and earning a Bronze Star, Matthew Teresinski was ready for the next step in his life. He chose Wisconsin because he knew that the skills and community he would gain could take his career to the next level.

I chose Wisconsin because I knew it was the most important step I could take toward career success. Serving as an Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Army gave me many critical skills, and I knew I had a lot to offer employers. However, military experience doesn’t always translate perfectly in the professional environment, and I lacked the business foundation I needed to move my career forward.

I was looking for a strong community. My military experience is actually what drew me to the Evening MBA Program over others. As a soldier, you become accustomed to a sense of family—you go through a life-changing experience with the same group of people and cement those relationships. At Wisconsin, all of my classes throughout the entire program are with the same group of classmates. I knew that these relationships would also be ones that would mean a lot to me for years to come.

I’ve already made two career advancements since beginning the program. I’ve moved into management positions with more responsibility. My employer, American Family Insurance, has a great partnership with the Wisconsin School of Business. They really respect the Wisconsin MBA’s talent and curriculum, so they put a lot of support into my participation in the program.

There were a lot of major changes happening in my life when I started the program, but I knew I could make it work. My daughter was just nine months old, and my wife and I had just moved across the state. With the support of my wife and my employer, I’ve been able to successfully balance the coursework with the demands of life and my current professional position.

My MBA has already helped me, and I can’t begin to imagine what it’s going to do for me down the road. I’m happy to be living proof of the value of the Wisconsin MBA.
