University of Wisconsin-Madison, Wisconsin School of Business
MBA Graduation Year: 2018
Current Job: Business Data Analyst, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation
I wanted to move beyond my supervisory position into a broader corporate management role, and I knew the Wisconsin Evening MBA would make it possible. I had put off applying for grad school for almost three years. I am very glad I committed to begin earning my MBA. Knowing what I know now, I wish I had started sooner.
I am able to apply what I learn in class immediately, which continues to be beneficial. My career training has always involved the financial aspects of hospitality management, but there was less emphasis on managing people. In my MBA program, I am learning a lot about organizational behavior, and I have gained people skills that have really improved my management style. It is satisfying to see such an immediate return on my investment.
I already have a new position and am moving toward my career goals while I work toward my MBA. Initially my goal after completing my graduate degree was to become a regional revenue manager in the hospitality industry. Last year, I started a position with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation that builds on my property management background and takes advantage of the expanded skills am getting in the Wisconsin Evening MBA program. I now have career possibilities I had not even considered.
I’ve had great support on three fronts. My family helps lighten my load so I can manage my time, my team and my supervisor help me make room for class and study time, and the Wisconsin School of Business admissions and program teams help through the entire process, taking care of the details while I focus on learning.
