University of Wisconsin–Madison, Wisconsin School of Business
Graduation Year: 2020
Current Job: Branch Manager, Otis Elevator Company
It has been a goal of mine to get an MBA since I saw my dad earn his when I was in high school. I always felt that an MBA would open a door for me, whether it is with my current company or in the future. I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by a supportive family that guided me throughout my career and encouraged me to pursue my graduate degree.
I have always wanted to advance to corporate leadership and knew that I needed my MBA to do so. I am grateful to be a part of a company that supports earning an MBA. This was a big draw for me to join Otis Elevator nine years ago.
I regularly implement lessons from my organizational behavior class at work. Understanding different personalities on your team, how to lead a high performing team, and understanding employee confidence are all concepts I draw upon. Professor Alex Stajkovic helped me identify what type of leader I am and how to embrace the characteristics that would make me successful.
The leadership team at work is taking note of my increased financial acumen. My financial accounting class provided me with a better understanding of what to look for when managing a business and its financials. I studied business in my undergrad, but that was ten years ago. Professor Fabio Gaertner put together an informative accounting class that allowed me to really grasp how the balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flow, and statement of stockholder’s equity all cycled together.

The Wisconsin Evening MBA Program has engaging professors that want to see you succeed and are available outside of the classroom. I have been pleased with the faculty-to-MBA student interactions. The professors want to see you do well and understand that you are juggling a full-time job, travel, family, and school all at once.
Balancing school, work, and your personal life is possible. I’m even able to get in a gym workout during the week. I make sure to set aside a couple of hours on the weekend to complete assignments and prepare for class. I also schedule in a night of intramural sports during the week to continue doing what I love to do in my personal life. It is comforting and encouraging to know that my classmates are going through the same thing and that we support each other.
